Alaska Boy Scout Lawsuit could cost millions

A Portland, Ore., lawyer who won a $19 million jury verdict against the Boy Scouts of America is representing a man who says he was sexually molested as a young boy by a Boy Scouts leader in Anchorage.

Attorney Kelly Clark told the Anchorage Daily News the man read about the Oregon lawsuit and realized his case is similar.

Lawyer files suit against Boy Scouts in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A lawyer who won a $19 million jury verdict against the Boy Scouts of America in Oregon has taken the case of a man who claims he was molested as a youth by a Boy Scout leader in Alaska, a newspaper reported Thursday.

The man read about the Oregon lawsuit and realized his case was similar, attorney Kelly Clark told the Anchorage Daily News.

Man files suit against Boy Scouts for sexual abuse

ANCHORAGE, Alaska- An unidentified man filed a lawsuit Wednesday afternoon in Alaska Superior Court claiming he was sexually molested by a Boy Scout leader in Anchorage when he was a young boy.

The man, identified as Barry Doe, is suing the The Boy Scouts of America, the Great Alaska Council, Boy Scouts of America and the Western Alaska Council of Boy Scouts of America.

An Anchorage man filed a lawsuit today alleging he was sexually abused by his former Boy Scout leader. The plaintiff, identified only as Barry Doe, says volunteer scout leader Dean Wendall You molested him in the 1970′s. You is a registered sex offender in Alaska. The plantiff’s lawyers are Ken Roosa and Kelly Clark, both well known for their work prosecuting sex abuse cases against the Catholic Church. Roosa says the abuse took place when his client was 10 or 11 years old.

An Anchorage man filed a lawsuit in state Superior Court Wednesday alleging he was sexually abused as a child in the 1970s by his Boy Scout leader, say his attorneys.

The lawsuit is against the Boy Scouts of America and the Boy Scout's Great Alaska Council. It says the man was abused by a scout leader named Dean Wendall You, who is listed on the Alaska sex offender registry for having been convicted of attempted sexual abuse of a minor in 1997, a separate case. You is not named as a defendant in the lawsuit.

Lawsuit alleges sex abuse by Scout leader

A local Boy Scout troop, its church sponsor, and regional and national Boy Scout agencies are alleged in a civil lawsuit to be responsible for failing to prevent sexual abuse of a local Boy Scout by his Scoutmaster in the mid-­‐1970s.
